Ambrož Jakop, captain and owner

Ambrož comes from Logatec, a small town in central Slovenia. Since he was a little boy, he has spent all his summers aboard the family sailing boat. He was introduced to sailing by his parents Mateja and Zdenko, who had learned to become skilled sailors all by themselves. He started working as a skipper as a young man. In 2012, he dedicated his professional career to the sea and established his company AJ Navtika (https://www.izpitzacoln.com/), which provides courses for taking the boating licence exam – you can read an interview with him here (https://www.total-slovenia-news.com/meet-the-people/6543-meet-the-people-ambroz-jakop-boating-instructor). Today, he is considered one the leading Slovene boating instructors.

Ambrož is also a successful ultramarathon runner. He has run several marathons (Ljubljana, Malta), supermarathons (Čazma) and ultramarathons (Stadtgut Steyr, Balaton). In 2016, he carried out the “Slovene Diagonal” charity project, a three-day run whose honorary patron was the then President of the Republic of Slovenia, Borut Pahor. The funds raised during his three-day run from the Hodoš to Sečovlje (a northeast-southwest diagonal connecting two Slovene border crossings) were donated to youngsters from a Slovene educational centre for disabled people (CUDV Draga).
